Fire, Ice, Earth, or Storm — when it can be so difficult to choose one, why not choose all four? Today’s preview from The Elements & Beyond is like a spell-version of Neapolitan Ice Cream, letting you choose all the elemental flavors you want at once. Primordial Tides lasts for 3 rounds, blasting your enemies with a different element each round, all the while shaking the earth beneath them. While it has a more limited duration and lower damage than most non-Instantaneous spells, it also doesn’t require concentration, making it more like a long-lasting cone of cold than a short-lived incendiary cloud.

Primordial tides is one of a handful of new spells in D&D Unleashed that are given to sorcerers but not to wizards. There aren’t many officially published spells like this (there are far more spells granted to wizards but not sorcerers), but there are still some. In general, we try to mostly maintain the ratio of spell availability to the various spellcasting classes as we release a multitude of new spells, and that means including not only enough wizard-only or cleric-only spells, but also some spells that are available to sorcerers and not wizards. And since primordial tides is a spell with a distinctly chaotic feeling, it was an excellent choice for helping to accomplish that.
